Comments/Interests: I grew up on the beach of Three Tree Point. We always had boats. My brother has always been the ski boat guy and I the sailor.
When I was 24 years old I left home on the beach and made a new home in the woods of Mukilteo. It was okay for quite a few years but then I really started missing the views and sunsets. Something has to change. To hard to move, how about a bigger boat?
I've been known to randomly find unique boats (or small ships) on yachtworld or craigslist and carry their pictures around in my lunchbox dreaming about them. Typically I realize I might be able to afford the initial cost of the boat (or small ship) but not the moorage or maintenance or even shipping halfway around the world. The last one was a 76 foot ex Swedish military vessel painted in green camo. It looked like a Hummer of the sea.
The last thing I really need is another project, especially another boat project! I've got a 41 foot sailboat in my backyard I've been working on for 10 years, a couple old cars and a home built electric car in the garage, an unfinished home theater and don't forget normal home maintenance!
When I found Quasar, it was love at first sight. There is my little ship!!!
She needs a lot of work to shine. Just about every surface on her needs some attention, and there is some rot around the pilothouse door. She runs good, but smokes a bit. I'd like to make her look more like a vintage north sea trawler. Lets see how that goes. At least I have a good excuse to get out of the woods and go hang out on the water!
I've had some difficult times lately since I bought Quasar. I had to sell my little Columbia 26MkII sailboat (we've been together for 13 years) and admit to all my sailing buddies I've gone to the dark side!
But Quasar has sails so maybe they will still be my friends?
