PNW Rendezvous?

Not sure if anyone is planning a rendezvous for 2012 yet -- can anyone fill me in??  I am not available very much in the Summer, but June could work (except Father's Day weekend, the 16-17th.)  If I had my druthers I'd like to see it in LaConner.  Nice marina, easy to get to by boat or car.

Any thoughts?  Answer below . . .

Early September is always nice, and would work great for us!  La Conner would be nice.

Ken & Linda -- Great -- would love to see Saga there!  Calcite (W36S) indicated an interest in June as well. Any chance you could make it the weekend of June 9-10? I checked with the marina and they have lots of room at this point.  (They also have a group from Bellingham Coast Guard Auxiliary that weekend.  Maybe we could get courtesy inspections too!)

Our cruising plans this year don't allow a June date, only late Aug. or Sept.  Really would LOVE to go though.  I will keep in touch.   Also wondering how to change/update the photo on here of SAGA, she has had undergone some updating since that photo was taken.

Changing photos is no problem.   You can upload photos to the members section by clicking on "Create Content/+image" in the menu at left. (I'll use it to update the image in the Boat Pages.)    Or you can email me photos directly and I'll post them.  Email: info@pacificmotorboat.com

Our schedule is off from yours -- we leave late June and return end of September.  But September may still be favored by others, so let's see who else is interested in either June or September.  (or May??)

I haven't made any plans for summer yet, I could probably bring Quasar. Being new to Willards, I would like to see what others look like.

5 boats interested so far.  I've made a Rendezvous page at pacificmotorboat.com/willardboats/content/pacific-northwest-willard-rendezvous-2012.  Will keep a tally there with updates . . .

Excellent -- glad you can come!  I've added you to the list.  BTW, is there any chance you could provide a larger copy of that nice photo you have for your Avatar, to use for Lady Anne's photo on the W40 page?  You can upload it here if youw ant: http://pacificmotorboat.com/willardboats/node/add/image.  Or email to info@pacificmotorboat.com.

Thanks!!

Wonderful -- looking forward to seeing you there!  We now have three "Anne" boats attending -- "Ann", "Kimberly Anne" and "Lady Anne".  (Too bad "Lisa Anne" can't make it up from Oregon!)

What fun it will be!

Willard Gathering in La Conner, WA May 2012

I have made an attempt to gather a bit of information about La Conner/Swinomish Channel that you might find useful and interesting. La Conner is a great little town to say the least. When Anne and I first visited the area a couple of years ago we were so impressed with the place we made the decision to make this our new home port! Everything is well within walking distance from the docks.

A couple of web sites that you might enjoy:

The Swinomish Channel in La Conner can become a bit interesting at times due to tides and currents, sometimes there may even be a little wind as well. Normally the wind will be coming from the SE. I have put together a tide chart with recommended slack water times. These times for slack water are not an exact science but are pretty close.

The strongest currents flow to the north.

These rules of thumb will help predict slack water and current direction at La Conner.  The actual times of slack water and duration of current flow are dependent on the range between high and low water and are affected by river runoff from the Skagit River.

  • Slack water occurs 2.5 – 4 hours after higher low water in Seattle + 30 mins.
  • Current flows north 2.5 – 4 hours before high water to 2.5 – 4 hours after high water.
  • Current flows south 2.5 – 4 hours before low water to 2.5 – 4 hours after low water.

I have taken the liberty of reserving the BBQ area at the La Conner Marina for Saturday May 11 2012 for our group to use. The area isn't very large but there is a nice BBQ area as well as rest rooms.

Good call, Anne & Rob -- the BBQ area definitely may be needed!  I'm getting ready to send out the final info pack to those who have indicated an interest, and will also include your tides & current info.

Also, I made a large batch of "Official Commemorative Willard 2012 Rendezvous Coffee Mugs" -- so cool!  One free to each boat, with additional mugs available for $5 each to help defray the costs. These are nice, full size ceramic coffee mugs, featuring the full line of Willard trawlers -- so will definitely look great on any Willard!

They can be purchased at the Rendezvous, and if any are left over afterwards, I'll make them available online for mailing.

Nice mugs, we would love to have a couple for our cruising coffee.  The Rendevous is sounding more fun all the time!  We are busily readying for it, and will look forward to meeting other Willard lovers.
